Chapter # 3 – Emergence of Pakistan


3.3.5 State Areas that Became the Part of Pakistan in 1947

In 1947, the areas that became part of Pakistan as a result of the partition of British India were:

West Punjab: This region included parts of the Punjab province with a Muslim majority population. It became part of West Pakistan (now Pakistan).

Sindh: Sindh was a separate province with a predominantly Muslim population. It became part of West Pakistan (now Pakistan).

Balochistan: Balochistan, with its distinct cultural and ethnic identity, became part of West Pakistan (now Pakistan).

North-West Frontier Province (NWFP): This province, with a Muslim majority, became part of West Pakistan (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan).

East Bengal: This region, with a predominantly Muslim population, became East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and was geographically separated from West Pakistan by India.

These areas were part of the larger territories of British India and were divided based on religious demographics during the partition, leading to the creation of the independent nations of India and Pakistan.

Overcoming the immediate challenges after independence was a daunting task for Pakistan, but the country managed to navigate through these difficulties with resilience and determination. Here’s how Pakistan addressed some of these challenges:
